Physical Education Teacher (Certificated)

Mayacamas Charter Middle School is seeking an experienced, dynamic, and passionate PE Teacher (Certificated) with a single subject credential for our Fall 2023 opening. The teacher reports to the Head of School and is responsible for all Physical Education instruction. The teacher fosters a collaborative and stimulating environment for a diverse group of students, as well as fosters a strong collaboration between parents, faculty members, board members and community partners.

Because MCMS will be in its first year, we are not just looking for teachers, but for founding educators.  We need people who want to work, and can thrive, in a fast-paced, evolving setting, and who demonstrate flexibility, creativity and persistence. MCMS needs educators who want to play a significant role in evolving our model and curriculum, facilitating meetings, designing school systems, and helping to create a school culture that is focused on social-emotional health, high achievement and community. Mayacamas Charter Middle School (“MCMS”) is a 6-8th grade public charter middle school that will build on the strength of the proven New Tech Network Project-Based Learning Model while utilizing best-in-class curricular elements to meet the growing needs of Napa’s diverse community of families.  MCMS is a diverse by design middle school, where socio-economically and racially/ethnically diverse students – who have diverse learning needs – will benefit from a highly personalized program that differentiates instruction to meet individual students’ needs. Through project-based learning, online learning, best-in-class curricular elements, and a strong focus on students’ social-emotional development, Mayacamas will ensure students master state content standards and grow developmentally in an inclusive, welcoming and supportive school culture.

• Foster a safe and nurturing learning environment in accordance with school policies and procedures focused on students’ social-emotional needs and development of positive character traits

• Organize classroom systems/procedures and manage student behavior to ensure that all students are fully engaged in learning with consistent practices across the school

• Establish an environment where students are excited about learning through engaging, dynamic learning activities such as project- and problem-based learning

• Potentially lead an Advisory group with collaboratively planned lessons for Social-Emotional Learning and “life skills,” as well as one-to-one monthly planning and review with students in creating and updating their Individual Learning Plans

• Potentially lead a combination of Learning Lab, Office Hours, and “X Period” to provide for fortification of individualized learning opportunities for students

• Build strong relationships with students and parents, engaging in two SLCs for each student each year, trimesteral report cards,and online access to real-time data

As a Physical Education teacher at Mayacamas Charter Middle School, you will plan and implement programs that teach students about healthy living, exercise, sports, and other related concepts in a collaborative and supportive environment.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university

• Master’s degree in subject matter field or Education (strongly preferred)

• Must possess, or be in the process of completing, a current California teaching credential

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics:

• Experience in collaborating with other teachers as well as with cross curricular teams in building project-based learning (PBL) units.  MCMS will employ the New Tech Network model curriculum, which uses projects and problems as the primary mode of instruction

• Ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative student data

• Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written)

• Must be computer literate
